Purple Hello card

Hello there! Erica here with my last blog post for July.

Today I'm steering away from both birthday and thank you cards if you can believe it..! Yep, today's card is a simple 'hello' one. With some water coloured flowers of course. Because why not?

I didn't really have a design in mind when I started this card, I just wanted to do some colouring and have some me-time. Right now, we have hydrangeas blooming all around our neighbourhood and one of my favourite colours is the one that is blue/purple. I love that deep, intense colour and tried replicating that on my flowers here. Sure, it's not a hydrangea stamp but just work with me for a minute ;-)

I picked out one of the little flower stems in the Grace's Happy Heart and heat embossed it in white in a pattern on my water colour card stock. I stamped it in such a way that I didn't need a mask as it doesn't overlap anywhere.

Usually when I colour with my Zig markers, I use them directly on the card stock and blend with either another colour or a water filled paint brush but today I tried something new. On an acrylic block I dabbed the three colours I picked out and then picked up the colour with my paint brush. This way achieved a much more mellow and more blended look and I quite like the results. It's great when you can get different looks from the same medium, it feels like you get more value for your money that way. Or at least it does to me.

The leaves I coloured in the same way, adding more or less water to bits to create some dimension and highlights. Once it was all coloured in, I set it aside to dry while I started working on the card base and sentiment.

Despite not being a huge fan of purple (except when it comes to flowers) I picked a lovely linen textured card stock for my card base and cut it just slightly bigger than my actual panel. The sentiment is cut out in the same linen card stock, just a darker purple and a dark grey. These two pieces I layered in such a way it looks like the word is shadowed. I like doing this to simple sentiments to make them stand out a bit more. It adds a lot of wow for very little effort.

When the whole card was put together I thought it needed a little something else (shocker, I know! Me, Erica, add embellishments?? Nooooooo....!) Instead of going for my trusted sequins (hold on to your hats, here is another twist) I reached for my Nuvo drops in translucent lilac. I added lots of drops of different sizes all around the flowers, kind of like rain or dew drops. Then it was another waiting game to let the drops dry fully before touching them. I always leave a card flat to dry overnight when I add enamel or glossy accents, Nuvo drops and the likes. Just to be on the safe side.

That's it from me for today but I hope you like this little card!

Happy crafting and happy summer from Erica
